BHI is a non-profit created to ensure that all residents and clients at the properties of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) have access to the resources and support they need to improve their quality of life, health and well-being.
A key quality of life initiative is our participation in Summer Night Lights (SNL). SNL is managed by the Mayor’s Office of the City of Los Angeles Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD). In partnership with HACLA and a number of HACLA’s community partners, BHI works to build community trust and offer positive alternatives to our residents to enhance public safety.
Launched in 2008, SNL has become a summer staple in Los Angeles communities most impacted by gang violence. SNL creates safe environments during the peak times of gang-related violence by providing free meals, sporting events, along with safe spaces for recreation and community events, as well as employment opportunities and similar resources.
