Celebrating Reading and Literacy with the Public Library.
BHI is proud of its network of literacy groups that support year-round reading programs. Book Rich Environments (BRE) is a tri-sector collaboration between non-profit organizations, national government agencies, and corporate publishers that aims to infuse public housing communities across the country with a vibrant and accessible culture of books. BRE works to connect families with reading-related resources, to improve opportunities and outcomes for residents. Our partnership with BRE means that new, high-quality diverse books get into the hands of children to own and build their personal libraries.
A community resource fair at Imperial Courts hosted by BHI partner RedEye/Watts Empowerment Center included The Office Actor BJ Novak inaugurating his new children’s book “The Book With No Pictures“. All participants received a copy of his book along with their choice of book titles that were available through BRE.
